Who is JBG?
I am a queer french artist based in Paris, with an interest in queer culture, drag, LGBT issues, erotica and a celebration of the body in all its forms. The goal in my practice is to capture the essence of my subjects, to reveal what is there and how I perceive them, and maybe even show them in a light that they don't see themselves in. My portraits aim for accuracy, but beyond the likeness I try to give them a sense of aliveness, so that the viewer gets a feeling of who the subject is when they look at the page. Since I have an almost anthropological interest in people and that a successful portrait tells a story, I aim to be a storyteller through my art.
Ordering a commission
Usually clients will submit a photo to work from, either to be drawn as it is or wanting to be placed in a specific situation/scene as a character.
Wait time really depends on the technique, but depending on my commissions calendar and the size & complexity of the piece it is usually between two to four weeks.
I accept PayPal for payment, and wait to receive the full payment upfront before starting the piece.
Hand-Drawn
Prices for hand drawn pieces A5 size (14,8 x 21cm):
- 85€/£75/100$ for graphite
- 120€/£110/145$ for graphite and watercolour or ballpoint pen
- 195€/£175/235$ for for full acrylic/gouache
For A4 pieces (21 x 29,7cm):
- 125€/£115/150$ for graphite
- 165€/£150/200$ for graphite + watercolour or ballpoint pen
- 250€/£225/300$ for full acrylic/gouache
Prices for hand drawn pieces A3 and larger and also oil paint can be discussed with the client. All pieces are shipped to the client by international post.
Digital
Format is either square of A4 (21 x 29,7cm), and prices depend on the technique as well, but the basis for prices is:
- 45€/£40/55$ for black/coloured pencil on white background
- 75 to 125€/£70-115/90-150$ for full colour and shading, depending on the complexity of the scene
All digital pieces are sent by email in both high resolution and low resolution format, both in RGB for screen display and CMYK for printing.
